1 year ONE in Vorarlberg

- Wide-ranging population coverage
- Total investment so far ATS 240 million in Vorarlberg only

Exactly one year ago, ONE was launched in Vorarlberg. The positive result: by now, more than 95% of the population of Vorarlberg, all important traffic routes, all tunnels, and all important ski resorts are covered.
Within only one year, ONE, Austria’s most modern mobile telephony provider, has been able to reach extensive population coverage in Austria’s westernmost province – together with Tyrol the pioneer area of ONE: by now, more than 95% of all Vorarlbergans are being reached. “Specially the high voice quality of GSM 1800 and our Bundesland tariff are meeting with wide acceptance from the population,” stresses Lars P. Reichelt, COO of ONE. “Each ONE customer consumes – calculated as an average of all pricing plans – more than 200 minutes of airtime per month – this value lies clearly above the average figures of competitors.” As of end of June, ONE had more than 200,000 customers all over Austria and thus reached a market share of 8%.

Leader in voice quality

All tunnels, all motorways, and the important ski resorts in the province Vorarlberg are already covered. “Very good coverage can for instance be found along the connection from Bregenz to Arlberg (A14, S16) and in the greater Bregenz area including Lustenau, Dornbirn, Hohenems, Götzis, Feldkirch and Bludenz”, ONE Area Manager Eduard Mayr positively sums up the network rollout. A great part of Bregenzer Wald as well as the connections to Warth, Lech and Zürs, the enitre Kleinwalsertal and the Montafon area are also covered.
In order to protect the environment, ONE has – wherever possible – done without own antenna masts. “Thanks to the good co-operation with the power suppliers Vorarlberger Kraftwerke, Illwerke, and Stadtwerke Feldkirch, we only needed to build two masts in Tyrol,” Eduard Mayr states with satisfaction. “In many cases, we were able to use existing high-tension poles.”
Based on the GSM-1800 technology, ONE is leading in terms of voice quality. The dropped call rate is below 2% and thus at a very low level compared nationally as well as internationally. The call success rate is above 97%.

Economic factor ONE

In total, ONE has so far invested ATS 240 million in Vorarlberg in 1998 and 1999. Based at the regional office Innsbruck (Tyrol), 24 employees are taking care of the provinces Vorarlberg and Tyrol, more will be hired before the end of this year. All over Vorarlberg, 30 distribution partners are co-operating with ONE, and all products offered by the mobile and fixed-line telephony provider ONE are available at a total of 50 points of sales.
