Austrian mobile operator ONE presents the first mobile digital radio worldwide – exclusively for UMTS-handsets

ONE and the Austrian company LIVETUNES have turned the UMTS-enabled handset into a radio: mobile, live, worldwide and free of advertising| The new radio programme banks on lounge and chillout music | Free trial for ONE post-paid customers

Following ladezone.at and the download of entire musical pieces, ONE now continues its focus on music with a worldpremiere: the first radio programme broadcast exclusively and live to UMTS-enabled handsets. Under the name LoungeFM relaxing chill out & downbeat sound free of advertising will be broadcast around the clock in connection with topical information about new media, lifestyle and music. ONE post-paid customers may test this service free of charge.

ONE launches a new era in the radio sector with the self-confident stance: What the iPod is to the music business, the mobile phone may become for the radio business. The new programme LoungeFM for the first time offers digital radio entertainment for UMTS-enabled handsets and thus enables a new diversity hitherto impossible with FM: Mobile, live, worldwide and free of advertising.
ONE CEO Jørgen Bang-Jensen: “With this innovative service for music aficionados, ONE launches yet another innovation in Austria following downloads of entire musical pieces and ladezone.at last year in the course of our special focus on music. We are delighted to add yet another innovation to the radio and mobile music market with LoungeFM.“

LoungeFM is provided by the Austrian company LIVETUNES and tailored to the Austrian radio market. Florian Novak, CEO and Founder of LIVETUNES: "Digital radio will revolutionise the reach of radio. Wherever you go, a complete range of new programmes will be available on your mobile phone in the future. LoungeFM is the first, but very important step, to a wider variety of channels without the need to buy an extra receiving device.” Receiving the new programme LoungeFM on the UMTS-enabled handsets is free for ONE post-paid customers during the trial stage.

This is how LoungeFM powered by ONE works

LoungeFM powered by ONE works via UMTS with audio streaming. The radio stream is sent real time to the ONE handset via a streaming server.
The music is played via the audio/video player on the Nokia 6630 and 6680 UMTS-enabled handsets. The portfolio of LIVETUNES compatible UMTS-enabled handset models will be continuously enlarged over the coming months.

ONE post-paid customers can receive LoungeFM powered by ONE via WAP or bookmark on their UMTS-enabled handset. In order to open the radio stream via WAP, go to the mobile WAP portal and click on the category entertainment under the item music to the LoungeFM link. As point of access on their Media Player LoungeFM users choose ONE. For use via bookmark ONE customers bookmark the address rtsp://radio.one.at/LoungeFM on their UMTS-enabled handset and choose ONE as point of access on thier Media Player.
If calls are coming in while the customer enjoys digital radio entertainment, the radio transmission is intermitted.
