ONE launches Mobile Broadband Offensive

Two-month testing period: free and unlimited surfing with return guarantee| attractive laptop bundle | HSDPA as of 14 June in Vienna

On 14 June 2006 ONE launches its Mobile Broadband Offensive with a free two-month testing promotion and an attractive laptop bundle as well as HSDPA in the first district of Vienna. In order to give its customers the opportunity to experience the advantages of mobile broadband themselves as well as get a glimpse of the excellent UMTS/HSDPA network quality, ONE is the only and first operator in Austria to offer its customers to test mobile broadband for two months free of charge and without data volume limit. Moreover, there is an attractive laptop bundle: a Sony VAIO VGN-FS 485 B laptop with the Novatel Merlin U 740 data card for only € 799.

Mobility has meanwhile become a customer need, not only in the business world, but also for private users. Currently more than 50% of airtime minutes are consumed via mobile phones. Also when it comes to data, the trend clearly goes towards more mobility. Studies show the significance of mobile broadband services for the telecommunications market. Current studies expect a 20 percent increase of the number of broadband customers on the Austrian market by 2010.

High market potential
“About 30 percent of all Austrian homes have laptops and to date only 100,000 data cards have been sold“, ONE CEO Jørgen Bang-Jensen comments on the high market potential for mobile broadband. “This means that the mobile broadband is THE growth factor on the Austrian mobile telephony market.“ From May 2005 to May 2006 UMTS data traffic in the ONE network rose by more than 600 percent. There are more and more applications and solutions in this area.

The readiness of Austrians to rely on mobility when it comes to data transmission is increasing. For this reason ONE has launched a big mobile broadband offensive. Apart from the HSDPA launch on 14 June in the first district of Vienna, ONE provides its customers with two highly attractive offers:

A first in Austria and only available at ONE: Two months of free and unlimited surfing with return guarantee
ONE is the first Austrian operator to offer its customers the opportunity to test mobile broadband for two months for free in the promotional period from 14 June to 31 July. Mobile broadband testers get the data card Merlin U740 for free, do not have to pay an activation fee and have a return guarantee for two months. Data volume is paid based on the principle of fair use. ONE CCO Michael Fried: “With this test campaign we facilitate mobile broadband for everyone and overcome our customer’s reluctance to use this new dimension of data transfer.“
Customers who are convinced of the ONE mobile broadband once the promotional testing period has expired can continue to surf with a data package of their choice.

Sony VAIO Laptop Bundle
Also new is the attractive laptop bundle which ONE offers its customers from mid-June: The Sony VAIO VGN-FS 485 B laptop (with 80 GB hard disk, multi-norm DVD recorder, integrated stereo loud speakers and 24 months guarantee) with the Novatel Merlin U 740 data card is available for ONE customers for only € 799 in specialised stores.

HSDPA launch in Vienna
On 14 June ONE launches HSDPA in the first district of Vienna with a downlink of 1.8 Mbit/sec, an uplink of 384 Kbit/sec and in the renowned ONE network quality. ONE CEO Jørgen Bang-Jensen: “Since more than 40 percent of all Austrian mobile broadband users live in the Austrian capital, we are launching HSDPA in Vienna. HSDPA rollout will be undertaken in stages over the coming months. The objective consists having upgraded the entire ONE UMTS network by the end of 2007. For all those ONE customers for whom HSDPA is not available yet, we offer the best UMTS network with a population coverage of currently about 62 percent.“
